7a) Group opinion and reason of selection

Reasons to select

Funny Mountain

As shown in food blog, our group have chosen Funny Mountain that receive high popularity on its soybean food products and Dessert Street which is famously known as Tong Sui Kai by the local Ipoh folks. Our core concept for this food blogs is to put more highlights on Malaysia's local desserts especially in the Ipoh area. By having a tropical rain forest climate with high temperatures and high humidity all year long, it would be very thirst quenching and refreshing food experience for the tourists. In the same tie, both of the dessert stalls are operating in fay or night which allowed the tourists to have the opportunity to try different Malaysia's local desserts in ant desirable hours which could easily fit into their journey schedule.

Began with Funny Mountain which has been established for over 60 years from the generation to generation, this long history soya bean stall was initially run by the current owner's grandmother is one of the major reason why we choose Funny Mountain. According to the current owner which is Cliff, this traditional recipe has been pass for at least 2 generations and they are still stone grinders to mash their beans and include edible gypsum as one of their ingredients as it is rarely used nowadays in most of the process of making soya bean and soya beancurd which called as "Tau Fu Fah" in Cantonese by locals. This allowed the tourist to try the authentic soya bean products. Ipoh's mountain water is another reason that was claimed to be the reason why soybean products were among the finest products in Ipoh. It has been awarded as The Best of the World by 8TV which is one of the top Malaysia broadcaster. This, this stall is a-must stop for those who visit Ipoh as it is still highly recommended by the locals. It is also quite special as it offer an informal drive-thru service which would give tourist a brand new dessert experience. With such a strategic location, tourist could easily have another locals food and products' shopping experience as it is near to Lou Wong Restaurant, Sin Eng Heong Confectionery and many others interesting food hunt location.

Tong Sui Kai Stall 41

Next, "Tong Sui Kai" such a local friendly name that represents Desserts Street though in reality, it does not only focuses on dessert but have around 50 hawker stalls in the whole lane. This place is suggested as tourist could have their meal and try another local Malaysia's food while having their desert simultaneously. For easier tourist's food hunt process, we would like to narrow down to Stall 41 which are famous for the Mixed Fruit Shaved Ice. Basically, it is a shaved ice that is covered by lots of local tropical fruits such as mangoes, jack fruits, watermelon and others. It would be rather interesting to the foreign tourist as they could taste Malaysia's local fruit produce in the same time while enjoying their dessert or any other local hawker foods. This lane or street also has very significant meaning to some of the Ipoh folks as far before 24 hours fast food restaurant operates and booming trend of "mamak" stalls as supper spot, this is where the locals would go whenever they would like to get a late supper with varieties of food options and cheap prices. It would expose the tourist in the old Ipoh local culture in the night session.
